ARCHIVES ON FIRE:
Artifacts & Works / Communities & Fields
Archives today are on fire—energized and endangered, mobile and mutable, ubiquitous and unique—as the societal forms and functions of libraries and publishers undergo significant changes. Digital tools, open-access platforms, and social networks are transforming the fields of artistic creation, research, and knowledge production, sparking new interest in artifacts and ephemera, visual and audio cultures, manuscripts and printed texts, micro-histories and intentional communities. Dynamic channels for collaboration and production become possible within and across the disciplines. Hybrid forms of action & expression challenge aesthetic, generic, and methodological standards, reconfiguring frameworks for authorship and audience, content and copyright, personae and politics within and beyond academia. Archives are vital forces of and for change.
This volume of RECONFIGURATIONS invites proposals for articles, essays, and hybrid works addressing a range of creative and critical engagements, including, for example: curation & museum studies; book arts, typography & design; collection development, access policies, and disability studies; documentary poetics & praxis; migrations and trans-nationalisms; information ethics & hacktivism; archives & the politics of race, class, gender, and sexuality; image/text studies & visual/material cultural studies; new materialist & multimodal studies; collaborative small press & open-access publishing.
Proposals (June 30, 2019): send 300-word abstract to showard [at] du.edu with the subject line, Archives on Fire submission.
Completed works (September 30, 2019). Peer review process, edits & revisions (October through March, 2020); publication (April, 2020).
RECONFIGURATIONS is an electronic, peer-reviewed, international, MLA-indexed, EBSCO-distributed journal for poetics and poetry, creative and scholarly writing, innovative and traditional concerns with literary arts and cultural studies.
